Newsflash: There’s a 100% free child safety resource no one is talking about.

Actually, some people are talking about it, but certainly not enough.

Your child may not know about it. Heck, you may not know about it! So let’s correct this situation right now.

You may have heard me say a ton of times, when the going gets rough,

Your child needs safe adults they can turn to.

You may hope your child’s favorite safe adult is you, but honestly, that’s not guaranteed.

That’s why:

A list of safe adults is a great child safety resource for your kid.

Help your child make a list of people such as:

  • A trusted grandparent
  • Their soccer coach
  • A next-door neighbor they’ve bonded with
  • Your child’s homeroom teacher
  • A favorite aunt or uncle
  • The parent of their best friend

Collect each safe adult’s information and add them to your child’s cell phone contacts.

And if your child doesn’t have a smart phone, write everyone’s info on an index card and tape it inside their backpack.

Question: What if your child has a situation they’d rather not reveal to someone they know?

Answer: The Crisis Textline

In the event of a difficult situation, anyone in the United States can text HOME to 741741.

According to the Crisis Textline website, once you text 741741, “A live, trained Crisis Counselor receives the text and responds. The volunteer Crisis Counselor will help you move from a hot moment to a cool moment.”

The Crisis Textline deals with all kinds of concerns.

Issues like:

  • Stress and anxiety
  • Coping with traumatic events
  • Relationship problems
  • Substance use
  • Bullying
  • Isolation and loneliness
  • Depression
  • Eating disorders and body image
  • Grief and bereavement
  • Suicidal ideation
  • Self-harm

The Crisis Textline has had over 9 million conversations with texters in the United States.

Why do millions of people reach out to the Crisis Textline?

According to their website, “Whether someone is in a crowded classroom, or lying awake in bed, texting makes it possible to reach out for support anonymously.”

Tell the kids you love about this child safety resource — the Crisis Textline — today.

Then remind them about it next month. And next year.

Because your child can’t have too many safety options, can they?

Plus, the number for the Crisis Textline is something they can share with their friends who are experiencing tough times.

Be sure to check out the Crisis Textline website also.

They have a ton of useful information for you and your kid.
